Kynaston McShine, Joseph Cornell, MoMA, 1980

Catalogue published on the occasion of Joseph Cornell's retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, from November 1980 to February 1981.

Cornell is known for his small-scale box constructions, in which he juxtaposes familiar but unrelated objects, pasted papers and reproductions, to portray his private visions of tangible and imaginary worlds. The show, curated by Kynaston McShine, gathered about 200 constructions and 75 collages.

Edited by Kynaston McShine, with essays by Dawn Ades, Carter Ratcliff, P. Adams Sitney and Lynda Roscoe Hartigan. Contains overs 300 reproductions.
